Image result for tree with deep roots

I tilt my head back and close my eyes, listening for the music in the leaves

The wind forms around my body, swaying me along with it

I open my eyes and stare at the tops of the trees, gently moving with the invisible waves

I feel a kind of kinship with these majestic organisms

If I could be anything, I’d be a tree

I would be a tall, strong, and sturdy tree with broad, bottomless roots

The wind would rustle my branches and steal some of my leaves, but my roots…my beautiful, gnarled roots, would hold me deep in the ground that nourishes me

The ground of my self-sufficiency, my faith, and my resilience

I look to the trees as an example of what I want to be

I want to let chaos, uncertainty, and negativity pass through without breaking me

The world around me may change, wage war, and threaten to chop me down

But I will calmly survey the activity surrounding me, knowing that it is just a season

And when the season changes, I will still be standing
