The strongest muscle

It’s amazing how the heart can sustain the most violent of attacks

Such as the desolation of the most important relationship in your life

Or the sudden withdrawal of love

The disappearance of one who let go of your heart

As they watched it fall to the ground in slow motion

And walked carefully over the shattered pieces

Never to return again

The heart can even survive the betrayal of unkept promises

And broken dreams

Unintentional wounds from the hooks of an unexpected connection

After realizing it can never be because they are unavailable somehow

These things should be able to seize the heart from beating instantly

The sheer pain alone could stop the blood cold

So why does my stubborn heart keep pumping when it feels like I died a long time ago?
